Lightning protection is the most important element for the protection of the photovoltaic installation.Lightning starts with the departure of the most powerful electric charge (the leader) from the cloud to the ground. When this charge reaches a certain distance from the lightning receiver, another electric charge induced by it /with opposite polarity/, starts from the lightning receiver towards it. After some time, the two opposing electric charges meet in the air at a certain distance from the lightning receiver, whereby a strong glow is formed – an electric lightning arc. In this phenomenon, the distance from the top of the lightning arrester to the meeting point of the two opposing electric charges (ΔL) forms the radius of the lightning protection zone (Rp), which in turn determines the lightning protection zone of the lightning arrester with anticipatory action.A very important element for the protection of a photovoltaic installation is the lightning protection.
